You can buy three versions of the Hyundai Ioniq – a Hybrid version with a petrol engine and electric motor, a Plug-in Hybrid version with a bigger battery for more range, and a pure EV version. As EV One Stop customers might expect, it is the Pure EV model which is quickest off the mark with its electric motor enabling it to fire off into motion in near silence. Add to this a six speed dual clutch gearbox, and you can see why reviewers have said the Ioniq is quicker than a Prius. Steering is said to be light and easy to manipulate, while braking is smooth.
The plug-in Hybrid version can travel 31 miles on electricity alone, while the EV version boasts a real-world 130-mile range. An 80% charge takes around half an hour with a fast charger. The interior of the vehicle itself reeks of quality, and the internal touchscreen is very responsive. There is also lots of room in the front and rear seats, the latter of which split 60/40 and can fold down. Across the range you also get standard rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera to help get into those tiny parking spaces. Other standard features include 15-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, climate control, automatic emergency city braking, airbags and hill start assist. Optional features include keyless start, a larger main touchscreen with sat-nav and smartphone mirroring, xenon headlights, heated front seats and wireless phone charging.
We at EV One Stop think the Ioniq makes a perfect, low cost, company car option as its CO2 emissions (and thus car tax) is rock bottom whichever version you choose! Add in a five year warranty, and battery warranty of eight years and 125,000 miles, and you have some great support too – so who wants one?
